There are a number of colourful events and festivals in the Northern Rivers region and Far North Coast of NSW offering entertainment that caters for a wide variety of interests throughout the whole year. Far North Coast Markets

MONTHLY/WEEKLY - Ballina’s Canal Road Market is on the 3rd Sunday of each month. The famous Bangalow market is a short 20 minute drive and is held on the 4th Sunday of every month. There are a number of other markets on every weekend with great local produce from fresh farm eggs and organic avocados to locally made crafts; the variety is huge! Find that special gift or craft to take home.

Byron Bay Bluesfest

EASTER LONG WEEKEND - Bluesfest showcases music from around the world annually on 120 hectares at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, just north of Byron Bay. Featuring over 200 performances across multiple stages over five x 12 hour days, with five licensed bars and beer gardens and 100+ food and market stalls. This event is huge and attracts people from all over the world.

Splendour in The Grass

JULY - Splendour in the Grass is an annual Australian music festival held at the North Byron Parklands in Yelgun, New South Wales. Just a short drive from Ballina and Byron Bay, it features the latest that Australian and International music acts. Combining both mainstream and alternative music, with a super-charged atmosphere, this is a hugely popular festival on the circuit.

Ballina Riverfest

NOVEMBER - Held annually, Riverfest is a vibrant event celebrating the importance of the Richmond River to this thriving community over the past century. There are SES river displays, information stalls, kids activities, art workshops, great food, good coffee and a ‘River Talks’ speakers tent with informative and interesting presentations about our river system.

Byron Bay Writer's Festival

AUGUST - Byron Bay Writers Festival attracts thousands of audiences annually. Their diverse program celebrates Australian writers and their stories and attracts nationally and internationally renowned writers, readers and artists. With a special kid's program, this festival has something for everyone.

Falls Festival

NEW YEARS EVE- Falls Festival is one of Australia's most popular music festivals with revellers travelling from all over Australia to experience this vibrant event with an electric atmophshere to bring in the New Year. Held in Lorne, Marion Bay, Fremantle and of course Byron Bay, catch some of Australia's best musical acts.

Ballina Food and Wine Festival

OCTOBER - Showcasing the region's best produce, products, restaurants and culinary expertise including premium wines, craft beer, cider and spirits from around Australia and abroad. With several events over the whole weekend, the main festival day is on Sunday. Family friendly.

ICON Australia All Girls Surf Showdown

Queen’s Birthday Weekend - The ICON Australia All Girls Surf Showdown is the largest women’s surf competition in Australia with competitors from all over the world, hosted and organised by the All Girls Surfriders of Lennox Head. Some of Australia's best can be seen surfing this competition.

North Coast Street Machine Car Show

JANUARY – Vintage car enthusiasts gather in Ballina for the annual North Coast Street Machine’s Show and Shine event with more than 200 vehicles on display from muscle cars to classic Holdens, Cadillacs, Hot Rods and motorbikes. The Retro and Vintage Pageant is a lot of fun too!

Boxing Day Races – Ballina

26 DECEMBER – Annual Event Continue with your Christmas festivities by heading to the Boxing Day Races in Ballina. Catch all the action of horse racing and non-stop entertainment at the Ballina Racecourse.

Ballina Cup Races – Ballina Jockey Club

JANUARY – This annual event is celebrated as a one of the Community’s calendar highlights of the year – not to be missed! The Fashions on the Field are a highly anticipated part of the day and free shuttle buses run throughout the day.

Alstonville Agricultural Show

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER – Annual Event There’s something about the atmosphere of a show; prized animals are paraded, smells of fairy floss and hot dogs, children yelling as they enjoy a ride in a sideshow alley… Capture all the action at the Alstonville Show – one of the oldest shows on the North Coast circuit.

Byron Bay Winter Whales Ocean Swim Classic

MAY - Since 1988 this ocean swim from Wategos Beach to Main Beach has been held annually to raise money for selected charities and local organisations. Covering a distance of 2 kms, this Classic Swim is open to all competitors aged 12 years and above.

Orchid Show - Ballina

The Orchid Society of New South Wales was founded on 7th August, 1934 making it one of the oldest in the country. The first general meeting was held at the home of T H James with the first president His Honor Judge H F Markell presiding. In 2014 the Society celebrated 80 years since its foundation. Sample Food Festival

SEPTEMBER - Sample A Taste of Northern New South Wales, is the premier food event for Northern NSW that happens annually on the first Saturday in September at the Bangalow Showgrounds, in the Byron Bay hinterland. Farmers, producers, chefs and foodies come together to “sample” the best food and beverage Northern New South Wales has to offer.
