Whale Watching in Ballina

whale

Gather at the Ballina Head Lookout only 200 meters from our front door and witness the Humpback Whales’ migration as they pass spectacularly close to our amazing part of the Australian coastline; or watch them from any one of a number of our apartments and penthouses that overlook the ocean. You’ll have the best seat in the house!

Ballina Whale Watching

Grandview is also just 10 minutes along the coast from Lennox Head’s Pat Morton Lookout – considered one of the best vantage points along the east coast to witness the migration; and only half an hour from Byron Bay Lighthouse where people from all over the world come to see the whales.

The Australian whale season is from June to November, when the humpbacks begin their annual migration from Antarctica to their breeding ground and the warmer waters of the Great Barrier Reef. They frolic with their mates on the way up and on the way back you’ll see them travelling in a pod with their little ones.  Keep an eye out for their water spout, a tail flap and if you’re lucky you’ll see them lift right out of the water (breach) and come down in a big splash.

Out of the Blue Adventures operate tours out of Ballina for Whale Watching and Ocean Experiences.

You can also see dolphins playing in the waves from your balcony at Grandview on any day, sitting in the Shelly Beach Cafe or just walking along the beach.
